Welcome to 5th Grade!

Let's make this a great school year!

Fifth grade is a time when students are expected to take on more responsibility. The skills they gain this year will not only ready them for sixth grade, but also for a future as a mature, responsible adult. More importantly, the knowledge they acquire will help students become closer to God and follow in Christ's footsteps. Through prayer and service, students learn how to be respectful to others and continue to grow in their faith.

Prayer for Students

Lord our God,
in your wisdom and love
you surround us with the mysteries of the universe.
Send your spirit upon these students
and fill them with your wisdom and blessings.
Grant that they may devote themselves to their studies
and draw ever closer to you,
the source of all knowledge.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Wednesday and Thursday April 12, 13

This is a reminder that lunch will not be served on Wednesday, April 12 and Thursday, April 13 (noon dismissal). Students must bring a lunch from home.

Parents,

A new rule has been put into effect in the 5th grade classroom. There have been many students who have been forgetting their work in the classroom and returning from daycare to retrieve it. As such, I told the students that they will not be able to return to the classroom to get their work. However, I am revising this as follows:

Students may not return from daycare to retrieve any forgotten work after school. However, if the school is still open, and I am still in the classroom, parents may bring their child to pick up any work he or she forgot.

October Book Report

Parents,

The subject for the book report for the month of October will be history. Your student may do a book report on either a non-fiction or a historical fiction book. The due date for this assignment is October 28, 2016.

Enclosed you will find some suggestions for books you child may enjoy reading. Your student is of course no limited to this list, but any book off the list should be approved by me first to ensure it is historical and at an appropriate reading level.

also, please check any book you choose to make sure you believe it is appropriate for your child. An easy way to check is to go to amazon.com, look at the reviews, and perhaps read the first few pages yourself by using the "Look Inside" feature.

Math Class

Good afternoon!

As of today, September 6, the fifth grade class has been split into two math groups in order to give the students more individualized attention. About half the class is with Ms. Adame, and the rest of the students are with me. Your student knows which class he or she is in.

Because there are two classes, the homework will be different. Math homework for Ms. Adame's class will be posted online in Ms. Adame's math class. Homework for my class will be posted with the rest of the homework. All math IXL posted on my homework page is for my math class. Please make sure your child completes the correct homework assignment.

Thank you for your patience. I was finally able to create a class online to post the homework. The homework for the rest of the week is now online. Please subscribe to my homework page to receive the list of homework every night.

Thank you,
